Rite of Lustratio

The ancients gave the name lustratio ( sacricium lustral ) to religious ceremonies which had the object either of purifying people or things, or of calling down divine favor and protection upon them.

Lustration or lustre, from lustrum in Latin, corresponds to the ritual of purification through the use of a particular water, lustral water, which was spread or sprinkled on impure elements.
